An illustration of an engineering drawing. The drawing number, revision, material and finish in its title block are outlined one by one, and beside the drawing each value appears as extracted data with a confidence level. The finish is flagged for review.

How it works

From print to data in four steps.

Upload a drawing, let SpecCapture read it, check what it found against the drawing itself, and take the data where it needs to go.

  1. Upload

Drop in PDFs, TIFFs or scans. Each sheet is read on its own, so a multi-sheet set comes back sheet by sheet.

  2. Extract

SpecCapture reads the title block, revision history, parts list and general notes, then checks every value against drawing rules.

  3. Review

Select any value to see the box on the drawing it was read from. Values it is unsure of are flagged for a person to check.

  4. Export

Download CSV, Excel or JSON, or send results straight into your own systems through the API.

What it reads

The data your drawings already hold.

SpecCapture reads the parts of a drawing you would otherwise retype by hand.

Title block

  • Part and drawing number
  • Revision and title
  • Material, finish and heat treatment
  • Scale, units and sheet size
  • Drawn, checked and approved, with dates
  • General tolerances
  • Projection, drawing standard and CAGE code

Revision history

  • Every row of the revision table
  • Revision letter and description
  • Date and approval

Bill of materials

  • Every row of the parts list
  • Item number and quantity
  • Part number, description and material

General notes

  • Each note in full, in order
  • Finish and weld callouts written as text

Hole tables, next-assembly lists and tabulated dash numbers are read too.

Every value comes back with

  • Its place on the drawing

A box around the exact ink it was read from, so checking a value takes a glance, not a hunt.

  • A confidence level

Values SpecCapture is unsure of go to review instead of slipping through.

  • Rule checks

Dates, revision letters and material specs are checked by rules that work the same way every time.

Made for

Start with the drawings you already own.

Your own prints carry the data you retype most. These are the jobs SpecCapture is built for.

  • Digitize a legacy archive

Paper, TIFF and scanned prints become searchable part data.

  • Prep quotes from customer prints

Part number, material and finish, without retyping them.

  • Fill your ERP

Enter part data from drawings into your ERP or MRP in bulk.

  • Build a drawing register

An index of every drawing, its revision and its title.

  • Get BOMs into a spreadsheet

Parts lists out of the drawing and into Excel or CSV.

  • Audit an archive

Find stale revisions and title blocks with missing data.

  • Keep what an archive knows

An acquired shop's prints, or a retiring engineer's flat files.

Trust

Your drawings stay yours.

Drawings are some of the most sensitive files a shop owns. SpecCapture is built around four commitments.

Retention you set
Drawings and results are deleted automatically after 0, 7, 30 or 90 days. You choose; 30 is the default.
Never used to train shared models
Your documents are not used to train AI models that anyone else uses.
Stored in the US
Your files and extracted data are stored in a US region.
Isolated per customer
Each account's data is kept apart from every other's, enforced by the database itself.
